Crowd-powered food deals

Batch 9 is Toronto's crowd-powered food marketplace.

The deal only cooks if enough of you (the restaurant sets the number) show up — or nobody pays.

Restaurants post deep-discount meals with a target and a deadline. Joining is free — your card is only charged if the batch fills before time runs out.

Three steps. Zero risk.

Joining costs nothing unless the whole crowd shows up. Think of it as a Kickstarter for lunch.

A busy neighbourhood restaurant1

Browse live deals near you

Restaurants broadcast time-boxed specials — a $5.99 lunch, a $3 breakfast — each with a diner target and a countdown.

A spread of plated dishes ready for pickup2

Book — card saved, not charged yet

Pick a pickup slot and save your card. Nothing is charged unless the deal hits its target. No tip, no charge, no hard feelings.

A table of freshly cooked meals3

Deal tips → grab your meal

Hit the target and everyone's charged at once. Show your QR code at your slot time and walk out with a meal at half price.

If it doesn't tip, nobody pays.

The threshold is the whole point. Restaurants can only afford deep discounts when volume is guaranteed — so no deal is ever honored at a loss, and no diner is ever charged for a meal that won't exist.

01

Apply, then a quick verification call

Request an invite below. We verify your food-handling certification and do a short onboarding call before your first deal goes live.

02

Post a deal in two minutes

Set the meal, the price, the minimum, and the window. We broadcast it to every diner within pickup range.

03

Batch economics, zero waste

100 identical meals prepped at once costs far less per unit than 100 à la carte orders — and you know the exact count before you cook.

04

Fill your dead hours

Monetize the 6–9 am window or the 2–5 pm lull. Your kitchen is idle anyway; a tipped batch turns it into revenue.

05

Flat fee, not a 30% cut

We charge a small per-meal fee only on deals that tip. Your margin stays yours — this isn't the delivery-app model.

Questions, answered

What happens if a deal doesn't reach its target?

Nothing — literally. Your booking simply ends at the deadline and no one is charged. The restaurant never preps the batch, so there's no waste and no loss on either side.

When exactly is my card charged?

You save a card when you book, but it's only charged at the moment the deal reaches its target before the deadline. Changed your mind before then? Email us before the deadline and we'll cancel your booking. Full walkthrough: How payments work.

How does pickup work with 100 people?

You choose a pickup slot when you join — say 11:30, 12:00, or 12:30 — so the crowd is spread across the window. At the counter, show the QR code in your confirmation and grab your pre-packed meal.

What does it cost restaurants?

10% of each paid meal (at least $0.75 in Canada, Rs 50 in Sri Lanka), only on deals that tip, taken from the weekly payout. No sign-up or monthly fees, and Batch 9 pays the card fees. Restaurants signed up by a Batch 9 rep pay nothing for their first 90 days, then a founding rate of 7%. During pre-launch Batch 9 also adds a bonus for every order collected. Payouts go out by bank transfer every Thursday night.

Is this delivery?

No — Batch is pickup-only by design. That's part of why the prices work: no driver fees, no packaging surcharges, no cold food. Deals are geofenced so you only see batches within an easy walk or drive.

Can any restaurant post a deal?

Any licensed food business in an active Batch neighborhood can apply. We verify food-handling certification and do a quick onboarding call before the first deal goes live.
